PLANET Leadership Development Programme

 


This Programme, the first of its kind to be organised by PLANET, and run by IBEC, was held on 19th / 20th July; 16th / 17th August, and 23rd / 24th August, in the IBEC offices, 84 – 86 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin

 

This Management Development Programme, held in 3 modules, was aimed at Managers, Programme Managers, & Administration Managers, and was attended by 20 people from Area-based Partnership Companies, Community Partnerships, and other Community and Voluntary groups, and comprised 3 Managers; 1 Assistant Manager; 11 Administrators; 4 Programme Co-ordinators; and 1 PLANET Staff Member

 

The programme was a combination of facilitation and training, focusing on linking where the company is going with the day to day behaviours of all managers involved in the programme. Training focussed on developing the skills that are relevant and immediately applicable at work. There were three modules overall, each of two days duration, and a project shall also be completed by participants as part of the course.

 

Module 1 focussed on the development of broader skills knowledge in critical areas such as leadership, strategy, change management, managing projects and people skills, with the emphasis on practice, case studies and role plays.

 

Module 2 on the development of personal and leadership skills with the suggested use of the Thomas International personality profiling system as a tool to assess management strengths and capabilities. Skills in the areas of motivation, recruitment and time management will also be developed.

 

Module 3 on looking at the areas of performance management, team building, handling grievances, as well as developing a knowledge of the law and how to handle conflict.

 

The objectives of the programme included:

Developing the confidence of participants to deal with a range of people management issues in their areas.
Understand strategy and managing change, and have the skills and techniques to make meaningful plans.
Raising the level of self-awareness of strengths.
Developing key management and leadership skills.
Highlighting core skills in industrial relations and the law.
Action planning.
Practical application of training skills and suggestions.

 

Survey responses from participants suggested that the strengths of the Programme included:

* All areas covered were very relevant, useful, and beneficial.

* Covered a vast range in a short time & issues most immediately necessary

* Group work contributed to the success of the Programme

* Excellent role playing, and the acting out of scenarios was very professional

* Interactive engagement made the sessions very manageable

* Good mix of materials, role play, exercises, etc.
